Avye Alexandres is a freelance photographer (and sometimes videographer) specializing in photojournalistic, documentary, portrait, and editorial shoots. Her photojournalistic work follows protest movements and politically motivated actions, and her personal works investigate perceptions of place, home, and modern ruin. On commercial assignments her spare, evocative style lends itself to intimate portraits, bold or minimalist fashion or concept projects, and honest, dynamic, event photography.
She is available for collaborations and open to travel worldwide.
A recent graduate from the MFA program in Art and Emerging Practices at the University at Buffalo, she has exhibited nationally and received several awards and fellowships, most recently the 2016 Oseroff Memorial Photography Purchase Prize from CEPA Gallery and the Roswell Park Cancer Institute / Roswell Park Alliance Art Committee. Avye (pronounced: Ahv-Yee) was born in Athens, Greece, so technically her name should be spelled Avgi. But that would have been significantly more complicated to explain to adults when she arrived in the U.S. at the age of six.
She has lived in the south, midwest, and northeast in the US and traveled to many other countries. She now resides in Buffalo, NY with her 37+ houseplants. She is also an artist, and web designer.
